October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As I read more and more about all the Canadian statistics about breast cancer I can’t help but think about stories the women in my life have shared. The shock, the crying, the anger and the fight.  The countless stories of courage and the power of fight these women shared.  The pink ribbon becoming a symbol to join women together and bring awareness to breast cancer and prevention.

Tragically some of the women in my life lost the fight and some have won, but what I remember most is how they fought and let go of the things in their life that at one time seemed so important and later so laughable that it was even a stress.  It changes families, children, friendships and lovers.

According to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer will affect 1 in 9 Canadian women during their lifetime.  I wanted to take the time to celebrate the lives of those who have fought so hard and those that continue to fight.  As a caregiver this journey is one of hardship as well.  The ones who stand behind their loved one to help keep them strong and balanced even when they don’t feel balanced themselves.  A role I embraced many times in my life.  Everyone has a story. One that can inspire, teach, and support.

I was very fortunate at one time to work with Chatelaine Magazine to share some of those inspiring stories.  Let’s continue to find our truths and strength in those around us.
